I am a software engineer. I also happen to have lost my previous job on November 2025. This is the first time I am unemployed since 2020.

I've been a staunch opponent of AI use since its inception. It's unreliable, and I take pride in creating reliable code. And everyone, even AI proponents, agreed that AIs were "good enough for most tasks except [whatever field the person is an expert at]", which is a clear red flag. There's also the fact that the business model is greedily scrapping all of humanity's literature for free then selling it back at a price. But there was a general shift last November. No, I don't mean it like the Singularity or whatever the grifters say. But LLMs have started to be generally considered "good enough" for software development even by software developers, coinciding with the release of Claude Something-or-other last November.

I also "specialized" myself professionally to be highly adaptable, as a thing to make me uniquely valuable in the market over other developers. But of course, that's also another thing that's been trivialized by LLMs.

I have been looking for a job since I lost my previous one, and I am always asked this question: how have I used AI to improve the way I work? And afterwards I am always told that they decided to go with another candidate more qualified than me.

If this goes on for 6 more months I'll lose my home, and I wonder what I'm supposed to do. Do I change careers? God knows I can't afford at all to go back to school, my apartment is gone either way. And any job that I can apply for without a degree won't pay enough for me to keep me housed anyway (it's not like I have a "big" apartment, and I could afford a smaller one with a smaller salary; I wouldn't be able to afford any other either, the housing market's fucked like that).

My career seems to be the first one that's actually becoming cannibalized by AI. And now Anthropic is expecting to have profits for the first time, and if they do, AI will have come to stay definitively.

I have no conclusion. If you are a software developer holding a good job position and hate AI, make sure you don't lose your job, at any costs. Or get ready to become #1 AI dicksucker. Godspeed.
